From hidden-gems to places to people-watch, from bookshops to beauty spots – The Five at Five offers some post-lockdown inspiration that celebrates the independents.
This week’s selection has been curated by Patrick Church, who takes a look at the cities and neighbourhood spots that inspire him and his artistic vision.
Patrick Church is a celebrated painter, artist and emerging designer in the underground fashion scene of New York City. He has a bold and beautifully brazen aesthetic that cultivates optimism and allows the wearer “to claim the identity that they desire, as opposed to the one they have been told to hold onto, diminish, or hide behind.”
His latest collection of swimwear emblazoned with the words, 'Dance Gay Boy, Dance For Champagne,' is a standout favourite.
FOR FOOD
I love Five Leaves in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. If you can get a table, the pancakes are incredible.
FOR PEOPLE-WATCHING
My favourite place to people watch is my tagged photos on Instagram. I love seeing people wearing my clothes - they feel like family.
FOR BOOKS
The best place for books is Printed Matter in Chelsea. They always have an interesting selection of books and zines.
FOR WELLNESS
Aire Spa in Manhattan is the ultimate escape, you feel like you have slept for a million years afterwards.
FOR SHOPPING
My favourite city to shop in has to be Miami. I always love the selection the stores offer there, it’s usually more vibrant.
