From hidden-gems to places to people-watch, from bookshops to beauty spots – here is some inspiration, celebrating the independents in our local neighbourhoods around the world.
This week’s selection has been curated by Kid Circus, aka Michael Coker, the London-based portrait and fashion photographer, who also states himself as a “lover of cakes and music nerd.”
From making music and DJing to photography, Kid Circus is a pure creative soul whose passion for being behind the lens was sparked by the landscapes, architecture and streets of London Town. In the early days of his career, he’d have thought nothing of waking up at 4am to get that sunrise shot just for fun. His most recent work has seen him collaborate with publications such as Rollacoaster Magazine, and brands such as Bally Shoes and Tag Heuer.
FOR FOOD
“The Galaxy Diner in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York. It’s a really relaxing place with a good vibe and great food.”
FOR PEOPLE-WATCHING
“When it comes to people-watching, it has to be most major railway stations.”
FOR BOOKS
“The Photo Book Cafe is a lovely cafe near Old Street, London with shelves full of photography and editorial books. Winner.”
FOR WELLNESS
“It has to be the Turkish Baths in Harrogate, UK. Set in a building with mosaics, handcrafted terrazzo floors and sweeping arches, it’s a beautiful place to unwind and fully explore their range of treatments.”
FOR SHOPPING
“I’d have to say Berlin. I found some great flea market bargains on my visits there.”
