From hidden-gems to places to people-watch, from bookshops to beauty spots – here is some inspiration, celebrating the independents in our local neighbourhoods around the world.
This week’s selection has been curated by sisters and founders of HADES, Cassie and Isabel Holland. This British knitwear brand believes clothes have the potential to enrich and improve our lives. And in order for them to do this we must appreciate how they are made, who makes them and the materials that they are made from.
Their journey began in 2016, when Cassie began by making one-offs for herself, drawn to the idea of adding a twist to the traditional British wool jumper. And that they did, indeed.
FOR FOOD
“Stork in Amsterdam, you can sit right on the water, the oysters are fresh and the gin and tonics are strong.”
FOR PEOPLE-WATCHING
“Brighton seafront for an eclectic mix of people, plus in the summer someone never fails to not get burnt.”
FOR BOOKS
“Freedom Press, the oldest anarchist press (said to have started in 1886!) and the largest anarchist bookstore in Britain.”
FOR WELLNESS
“The seven sisters in Sussex. You can walk 14 miles from Seaford to Eastbourne over the white cliffs. The walk and fresh air is both heady and unwinding.”
FOR SHOPPING
“Rome. Italian produced clothes are in general of amazing quality and great fabrics. Rome's vintage shops are a great place to look for unique pieces.”
